Common Dragonfly
Mountain Pine Beetle
The mountain pine beetle attacks all known pine species. It attacks by by penetrating the bark then eats small channels just below the bark of the pine tree where it forms chambers in which to lay eggs. These overwinter, develop and hatch out sometime the following July depending on temperature. In this image the bark has been cut back to expose the channel and the beetle can be seen as the black blob at the end.
