There are two types of thinning commonly practiced in Nova Scotia.
Pre-Commercial Thinning (PCT)
Pre-commercial thinning is performed in young stands that are overstocked. There is no immediate economic benefit realized from a PCT.
Commercial Thinning (CT)
Commercial thinning is performed in a middle-aged stand. Ideally, income received from the wood products harvested will pay for part or all of the CT operation.
